One could say that 2016 was a lacklustre year for smartwatches with demand and sales falling below expectation. However 2017 promises to be an eventful year in the category, with Google’s Android Wear 2 due for release in Q1.
There are a number of established brand names releasing iterations of their previous models along with some brand new entires into the space from some unexpected sources. Of particular interest are the fashion brands such as Fossil and Nixon offering great new units with street cred and fashion appeal that sadly the conventional players seem to lack.
